Black Girls Win in Star Trek!

Monday, May 11th, 2009
zoe-saldana-uhura   When I was a pre-teen, my mother would drop my sister and I off for entire summers to stay with my auntie Sharon in the hot, dismal desert that is San Bernardino, Ca. Auntie Sharon was a local celebrity for her cake-decorating and hair-braiding ability, and it was thanks to the latter that my baby Trekkie inclinations were born. Auntie Sharon was a HUGE trekkie, and while I sat on the floor getting the dookie braids with the gold cuffs… Read More

Family Business

Damn. They're on to us. That's the first thing that popped into my head after I spotted the EW article on Tyler Perry's "controversial movies" over at Issa Rae.  I agree with Issa. That article is irksome. I feel like that ridiculous cousin that talks about you all the time but wants to start swingin' when other people start to do it. Hypocritical. I know.

Woman Calls 911 Three Times over McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009
If you didn't know, McDonald's chicken McNuggets are a life-threatening emergency. Especially when the fast-food restaurant runs out of them and refuses to give their customers a refund and try to force them to choose another fatty ass item off of their killer menu. When the fool behind the cash register at Mickey D's starts to act all siddity the first thing you need to do is call 911 according to Latreasa Goodman from Florida.    Last weekend Latreasa called the police THREE times over some chicken McNuggets. Listen to the calls.   Read More

Monkey Business

Everyone is working up a frenzy over this New York Post cartoon.

So yeah. It's in bad taste. Black folk have a long history of being referred to as monkeys, but we're also talking about a cartoon in a Rupert Murdoch publication. Murdoch owns News Corporation. News Corporation owns every FOX channel. FOX is the primary news channel that employs a whole bunch of conservative hacks that went after President Obama something terrible during the election.… Read More

Jennifer Hudson, Muhammad Ali, Def Poets at NAACP Image Awards

Friday, February 13th, 2009
I think I might have been the only person watching the 40th NAACP Image Awards last night. Too bad, because those of y'all who skipped over it missed out. The show started off way better than the Grammys with Beyonce opening up and getting all teary eyed as pictures chronicling the NAACP's last 100 years and other moments in black history filled screens behind her.   Halle Berry had both of her girls out in the beginning of the show and Tyler Perry's suit was too small but they did a good job as hosts.   All kinds of people starting crying their eyes out during the Muhammad Ali tribute and I almost stood up in my living room and started clapping… Read More

Get Em, Don.

don-cheadle[No, this post has nothing to do with Don's work with Project RED. Yes, I just wanted to post this picture. Deal with it.]

Don Cheadle is the man. And now the TV powers that be recognize it too:
Oscar-nominated actor-producer Don Cheadle and his Crescendo Prods. are making a big push in television with a two-year, first-look deal at Universal Media Studios. Under the pact, expected to be announced today during… Read More
