Word?
Um…this entire list and the above video is mostly objectionable (Drake gets hella nominations for a mixtape that he started charging people for?), but this right here (with the exception of the last two) is out of control:
BEST RAP ALBUM NOMINEES
“Universal Mind Control,” Common
“Relapse,” Eminem
“R.O.O.T.S.,” Flo Rida
“The Ecstatic,” Mos Def
“The Renaissance,” Q-Tip
As I’ve said numerous times, Universal Mind Control wasn’t worth the hard drive space on my computer. I don’t know who Rashid paid to get on this list, but I for one am shocked and appalled. I wouln’t say 2009 was the best year for rap albums, but Flo Rida?? For serious? I’m pretty sure he would have won for best dance album, and that’s where he should have been nominated.
Fabolous’ album was better than Flo Rida’s, as was Jadakiss’, as was Rick Ross’, just to name a few. And I didn’t even like any of those albums all that much. What happened to 808’s & Heartbreak? I’m not sure where it would be categorized, but dammit, it deserved some shine somewhere.
If Common wins, I hope someone Kanye’s him on the stage, microphone-grab and all. If he had any decency he’d Kanye himself, and give the award to Q-Tip.
Anybody else have any other contenders in mind? Things like this make my decision to get rid of my TV that much easier.

I loved Ecstatic and Q-Tips album. I would nominate Only Built for Cuban Linkx II. Rae probably had the only album I’ve heard this year that sounded anything like the hip-hop people are nostalgic for. And you know I love Cudi so I would nominate him but his album is hard to categorize like Kanye’s. Kanye lost any shot when he taylor swifted Taylor. I need somebody to tell me why Flo Rida’s CD is named ROOTS.

I have no respect for someone who calls themselves an artist and names themselves after a state because they reside in that state. Can we get a little more creativity? Florida Flo Rida. Get the hell outta here! If Mr. Florida wins this category I might as well shoot myself.
I love Q-Tip’s and Mos Def albums, freakin works of art! I hope one of them wins.
And yes, Kanye shot himself in the foot over the beautiful Beyonce. I don’t even think he’ll be allowed to sit close to the mic ever again.

Perhaps the album title is in reference to his hairline? lol
but yeah…I didn’t include Raekwon’s album because it came out in September and I believe the eligibility cut off for this year was Aug 31.
I loved and purchased both Ecstatic and Renaissance, but out of the two I liked Q-Tip’s more.

Route of overcoming the struggle. BAODYP!!!!

Back to Mr Florida
According to Wikipedia, The album is titled R.O.O.T.S. (Route of Overcoming the Struggle). So I guess that means his album is supposed to be about his life and how his struggle is now over because he made it big.
And yes, maybe Renaissance wins over Ecstatic, I still loved them both.
