Integrity Be Damned

You know it’s a new age when the Los Angeles Times reviews the leaked copy of Jay Z’s Blueprint 3:
“Thank You”
Rather than use the liner notes, Jay-Z decides to write a song thanking the fans for supporting him. He mentions that he has 10 No. 1 albums — a factual inaccuracy. He has 10 official solo albums released prior to this one, and not all reached No. 1. You’d think that with all of his money, he could at least pay sidekick Memphis Bleek to fact-check for him. He also mentions his predilection for wearing really nice suits and going to the opera.
Remember when that FOX News film critic got fired for reviewing Wolverine before it was released? I guess that high moral ground doesn’t apply to hip-hop.
Damn near everybody with an Internet connection has decided to download BP3 likes it’s the cure to the H1N1 virus. If I must bite a corny twitter trend #donttalktomeabouthiphop if you bitch and moan about hip-hop being dead and you stay bootlegging.
Hip-hop is the only music genre that continuously shoots itself in the foot (no Plaxico).
Word from all the bootleg music reviewers, BP3 is a dud. I’m sure Hov didn’t set out to fail, but hypothetically speaking, why would anyone put 100 into a product the masses are going to cop for free? Judging from those two underwhelming radio singles Jay was playing around in the studio. We get what we pay for.
The fact that Jay is excited about his album leaking and has allowed MTV to stream BP3 shows he doesn’t need that cash flow, but the man is the pseudo king of hip-hop and if the King doesn’t do well, no one else will. If Jay can’t push records, you best believe the suits who really run all of this music game won’t put their weight behind lesser known artists that deserve to grace the mic.
The formula that pays, is the formula that stays.
That is why Soulja Boy wins. People make fun of his fans, but at least they get their mamas to buy his albums.

Lmao yes I did Erwin. I’m really not about to listen to it if I gotta sift through 5 emails. Thanks for thinking of me when you do your illegal activities though

amen. i listened, and it’s not as bad as the singles initially let me to believe. but this is why the “culture” stay losing. you wonder why labels keep pushing the one-hitter-quitters, and it’s the nature of the consumer.

I refuse to listen to a leak or a download. I’ll treat it like most releases this year & steal it from a friend one day out of boredom.
Maybe I’m getting more cynical & morose as I creep toward 34, but I couldn’t careless about Jay-Z’s album. Chances are I’ll only like a few songs, just like everbody else’s albums.
Those days of heroic releases & instant classic are long gone. If it doesn’t suck, thats good enough for me. I didn’t buy Eminem, & I won’t be buying this.
@ this rate, Raekwon will be lucky if I fish through pocket lint to cop his joint.
May, how Hip Hop has changed.
I don’t even see the point in releasing albums nowadays. I’m glad I stopped trying to rap 12 years ago, because right now I’d be beating people’s computers with baseball bats.

[...] iii) Proper Talks is super good at blasting hypocrisy. Have you downloaded your leaked album of Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3″? Well the L.A. Times has, AND they reviewed it early. What’s the hypocrisy? Read about it here. [...]

I absolutely agree. That is pretty much how I see it. Excellent!
