I just emailed my acceptance of admission to the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop today. I’m trying to not think about the fact that it was only 29 degrees there this morning. But of course, that’s all I’m thinking about. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit shook to be freezing chillin in a town with only 60,000 people for the next two years.

 

But! I’m not letting the size and stereotypes of “rural life” get me down. Hell, Iowans just might be smarter than Californians and Georgians combined. Their supreme court legalized gay marriage last week, and the leaders of their legislature look like they’re backing the ruling up. Good for them. It also bodes well for me– a place that will let people love who they want to love can’t be so bad, right? 

 

And then, as if in a hurry to be among the top five states with common sense (they come in fourth after Mass, Conn, and Iowa), Vermont’s courts ruled in favor of gay marriage an hour ago. We here at Propertalks like this kind of news. We’re too old to be harboring hate for people who are just living their lives, and we’re only 24 (well, Keeks will be in 3 days). We really don’t see how older people can keep all that hate up.

 

And yes, at the very end of this song Cam does shout out Iowa.
