Proper Song(s) of the Day: Because You Can’t Stop Xmas
So remember when I bragged about how my family is “cancelling” the gift-giving part of Christmas this year due to the recession? Yeah, apparently I made that all up. I discovered this afternoon that not only are all parts of Xmas popping off as usual this year, but that I was the only one who hadn’t bought anything for anyone because I thought we all had agreed to not exchange gifts. Needless to say, yesterday was a long one.
But! Since Xmas is back on for me in all of its pocket-pounding and unseasonal glory, I’m gonna be merry about it. And what better way to get into the spirit than with a few apropo Proper Songs of the Day(s)?
First we have Jim Jones being all prolific in long johns (yummy!) and Juelz Santana hovering ala Robert Kelly over a group of young girls by an Xmas tree. Did you buy these on Itunes?
And here’s one of my new favorites. I heard Augie Rios’ “Donde Estas Santa Claus” last year for the first time on the Art Laboe show (most likely before the 30th dedication of “Always and Forever” that night). The song came out in 1958 and while I’m not sure how PC it is, it’s quite catchy. And what’s PC about Xmas, anyway? Feeding a fat man cookies sure isn’t.
We hope you have a merry Xmas or at least enjoy having less annoying people at work today. We’ll be back Friday, or Monday, depending on the sales.
