Jesus Was a Gemini, Not a Capricorn
Remember how your mama (and the calendar) use to tell you December 25 was the day Jesus was born and that’s why we celebrated Christmas on that date? Well, my daddy use to always chime in and say that wasn’t the exact date God’s son was born, and now a group of astronomers are saying my daddy is right!
An Australian astronomer has calculated that Jesus was born on June 17 by using a computer system that can replicate the way the sky might have looked at anytime in history. He claims that the biblical star the three Wise Men followed to Jesus’ birthplace was actually a conjunction of the planets Venus and Jupiter. Supposedly, the two planets were so close together they appeared as one bright star; (I think I remember learning in my astronomy class my last semester at SC that could happen).
The astronomers say their findings can help back up the story of Jesus’ birth:
This is not an attempt to decry religion. It’s really backing it up as it shows there really was a bright object appearing in the East at the right time. Often when we mix science with religion in this kind of forum, it can upset people. In this case, I think this could serve to reinforce people’s faith.
I hope people don’t take this information and try to change the date people celebrate this holiday. Christmas in hot ass June (excuse my language Jesus) would be wack.
